General Condition

The archaeological site of Wat Chana Songkhram is located in Sukhothai. almost in the middle of the city North of Wat Mahathat and the City Pillar Shrine South of Traphang Trakuan and Wat Sa Si

Sukhothai is located on the plains of the river (Terrace) in the eastern foothills of the Pratak Mountains. The sediment deposited thus consists of soil, gravel, sand that is carried by the water from the mountains.

From the foothills, the area has a slope to the east to the Yom River, which is approximately 11 kilometers east of the ancient city. Klong Sao Ho which is a straight stream on the south side and Mae Lamphan Canal on the north and east side of the city and flows into the Yom River at the present Sukhothai Province.

The area between the ancient city of Sukhothai and the Yom River is a marsh. There are frequent floods and some places have been trapped in water for months. Therefore, it may be one of the reasons why Sukhothai Old City is not located on the riverbank plain.

Geological conditions

The soil is the Mae Taeng soil series (Mae Taeng series:Mt).

The archaeological site of Wat Chana Songkhram is located in Sukhothai. almost in the middle of the city North of Wat Mahathat and the City Pillar Shrine It is located on the southern side of the tank.

Originally, the villagers called this temple as Wat Ratchaburana. There is a large circular bell-shaped chedi as the main chedi. On the east side are various viharas, churches and pagodas. The layout of this temple is special than the others:there is a small Viman chedi flanking the main chedi on the east side. similar to Wat Chedi Chet Thaeo in Si Satchanalai More likely to be created in a later period. When Sukhothai was included in the Kingdom of Ayutthaya (Special Chea Chanphong 2003 :17)
