History of the Kanva dynasty (72-27 BC)

After conspiratorially killing Devbhuti, the last king of the Sunga dynasty, his common man Vasumitra established a new dynasty, the Kanva dynasty. Like the Shungas, the Kanvas were also Brahmins. Vasumitra ruled for a total of 9 years. After that three kings Bhumi Mitra, Narayan and Susharma ruled for 14 years, 12 years and 10 years respectively.

Susharma was the last ruler of this dynasty. According to the Vayu Purana, he was killed by his Andhra caste Bhrutva Shimukh. The Kanva dynasty came to an end with the death of Susharma.

From Vasu Mitra to Susharma, the kings of this dynasty ruled from 72 to 27 BC (45 years).
