British control over the criminal administration

By 1790 AD, the British also took the priestly administration under their control. Charles Francis I Grand was appointed as the first Magistrate of Patna. Patna and Gaya districts were organized separately in 1865 AD.

In 1866 AD Saran district was divided into two parts. One part was Sahan, the other part was called Champaran. In 1835, Tirhut was also divided into two units, Muzaffarnagar and Darbhanga.
