What is the origin of word Soviet?

The word "soviet" comes from the Russian word "sovet", which means "council" or "assembly". It was first used in the 18th century to refer to a group of peasants who met to discuss village affairs. In 1905, the word was adopted by the Bolshevik Party to describe a group of workers' and soldiers' councils that were established in Russia during the Russian Revolution. After the Bolsheviks took power in 1917, the word "soviet" was used to refer to the national parliament of the Soviet Union, the Supreme Soviet. The term "Soviet Union" was first used officially in the Treaty on the Creation of the USSR in 1922.
