Why do people in china call themselves the children of han?

The Han Chinese are the largest ethnic group in China, making up about 92% of the population. They are believed to be descended from the ancient Han dynasty, which ruled China from 206 BC to 220 AD. The term "Han" is often used to refer to all Chinese people, regardless of their ethnicity. They use this term Han to show there connection to the glorious imperial past under Han emperor in which China witnessed golden prosperity.
