Whose reign began the Mughal empire?

The Mughal empire was founded by Babur, a descendant of Timur and Genghis Khan. Babur was born in 1483 and became the ruler of the Fergana Valley in Central Asia in 1494. He began his conquest of the Indian subcontinent in 1526 and became the first Mughal emperor in 1526 after defeating Ibrahim Lodhi, the last ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, in the Battle of Panipat.
