History of Asia

Why did the Japanese enter World War 2?

Japanese Expansionism:

- Japan sought to expand its empire and secure access to natural resources, especially oil and rubber.

Growing Tensions with the West:

- Japan felt challenged by Western powers colonizing Asia and resented restrictions on its own expansion.

Militarism and Nationalism:

- Japan's military leaders gained influence and pursued aggressive policies. Militaristic ideals and a sense of nationalism further fueled expansionist desires.

Pearl Harbor Attack:

- Tensions with the US rose due to US sanctions and support for China in resisting Japanese aggression.

- To disable the US Pacific Fleet and gain strategic advantage, Japan launched a surprise attack on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, triggering America's entry into World War II.
