Mao Zedong was the father of communism in China. He was a Chinese revolutionary and politician who served as the founding father of the People's Republic of China (PRC) from its establishment in 1949 until his death in 1976. He was also the leader of the Communist Party of China (CPC) from 1943 until his death. Mao's theories, military strategies, and policies are collectively known as Maoism.
