What were the kings and queens of Japan China called in English?

In Japan, the emperor and empress are referred to as "Tenno" and "Kogo" respectively. The literal translation of "Tenno" is "heavenly sovereign", while "Kogo" means "empress consort".

In China, the emperor and empress are referred to as "Huangdi" and "Huanghou" respectively. The literal translation of "Huangdi" is "Yellow Emperor", while "Huanghou" means "empress consort".
