Who were the first Europeans to discover China?

The first Europeans to discover China were the Portuguese in the 16th century. In 1513, a Portuguese explorer named Jorge Álvares sailed to China and established trade relations with the Ming Dynasty. Álvares was followed by other Portuguese explorers, including Fernão Mendes Pinto and Tomé Pires. These explorers wrote detailed accounts of their experiences in China, which helped to spread knowledge about the country in Europe.
