History of Asia

Where was ancient Japan located?

The ancient civilization of Japan developed in the archipelago of Japan, which consists of four main islands (Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, and Kyushu) and thousands of smaller islands. These islands are located off the eastern coast of Asia in the Pacific Ocean. The geographical coordinates of ancient Japan range from approximately 45° N to 20° N latitude and 122° E to 146° E longitude. During ancient times, Japan's proximity to the mainland of East Asia, particularly Korea and China, played a significant role in shaping its cultural, technological, and political development.
