History of North America

Where did beefmaster cattle originate?

The Beefmaster breed of cattle originated in South Texas, United States, through efforts beginning in the 1930s. The breed is a composite that arose from the crossing of Brahman, Hereford and Shorthorn cattle. The goal of the Beefmaster breeders was to develop a breed that combined the heat tolerance and disease resistance of the Brahman, the carcass quality and meat tenderness of the Hereford and the adaptability and fertility of the Shorthorn.
