How did Camden New Jersey get its name?

The city of Camden, New Jersey, gets its name from Charles Pratt, 1st Earl Camden. Pratt was a close advisor of King George III of Great Britain and a supporter of the American colonies. He was known for his liberal views, including his opposition to the Stamp Act of 1765. The city was named after Pratt in 1773, when he was appointed Lord Chancellor.
