Example of a city which was founded as fort with safety in mind?

Quebec City in Canada is an excellent example of a city that was founded as a fort with safety in mind. The city was established in 1608 by French explorers Samuel de Champlain and Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Monts. They chose the site because of its strategic location on a cliff overlooking the St. Lawrence River. The city was designed with a strong emphasis on defense, with thick walls and fortifications constructed to protect it from attack. The city also had a strong garrison of soldiers and was well-supplied with weapons and ammunition. As a result, Quebec City was a safe and secure place for its inhabitants, and was successful in repelling numerous attacks by both the British and the Americans over the course of its history.
