Psychologist's Day:April 30

The psychologists They are celebrating this April 30 and from Spill Magisterial we offer a greeting and recognition to the task, often little valued, that they carry out both in mental health centers and in educational and labor institutions. Human behavior is, in many of its extremes, unpredictable, as we can see every morning on the news. The psychological reactions to events that cause us joy, sadness, fear, anxiety, hubbub, anger, etc., are studied, analyzed and understood by those doctors who decided to make psychology their field of study. While psychiatry seeks to attenuate mental ailments or illnesses with medications that reconstitute the chemical reactions that occur in our brain, psychology seeks to go beyond the merely physical and chemical, delving into explanations based on experience, the interpretation of history patient's personal and emotionality. For this reason, the Greeks related it so much to the human soul.

Mental health is just as important as physical health. Disturbances in the health of the nervous system (whose main function is to quickly decipher and process external signals, as well as control the functions of other organs) lead to the malfunction of our body and therefore to the decline, decline and deterioration of well-being necessary to be able to lead a rewarding and satisfying life.

Psychology has long been dedicated to the analysis, study, observation and investigation of human behavior. These behaviors are influenced by a series of external factors, experiences, experiences, ways of perceiving and processing information that determine the characteristics of the individual's personality. In order to simplify a bit the extensive field on which psychology supports its object of study, three important branches of the "Study or treaty of the soul" can be mentioned, which is how the Greeks called this science:

Clinical psychology It focuses on the study of all the factors that affect people's mental and physical health. This branch of psychology seeks prevention, evaluation and diagnosis to effectively dissipate all the discomforts that affect the human psyche. It is important to highlight that many disturbances of psychological origin exert, over time, a negative influence on the functions of the organs of the human body, a situation that degenerates into very serious pathological symptoms.

Psychology of learning
This interesting branch of psychology has focused its object of study on all types of processes that cause perennial changes in the behavior of individuals. The most important of these processes studied by this branch of psychology is learning. Through learning, the person acquires a series of knowledge and information that are extremely useful for the development of skills that the individual did not possess before undergoing this process.

Forensic psychology
Analyzes the evaluation of the mental state of people who are going to face legal proceedings. It is essential for this branch to discover the causes that originate criminal and perverse behaviors. A good forensic psychologist also deals in detail with all the legislation that regulates this type of behavior, hence its close relationship with criminalistics.

In Latin American countries, the Day of the Psychologist It is celebrated on different dates. For example, in Argentina it is October 13, the date on which the first meeting of psychologists is commemorated. and psychology students that took place in the city of Córdoba, in 1974. In Mexico, the commemoration date is May 20; in Colombia, on November 20, in Brazil, on August 27; in Honduras, on November 9; in Paraguay, May 22; in Guatemala, on July 23; in El Salvador, on October 10; in Cuba, on April 13; in Venezuela, on November 22; and in our country on April 30.

In Peru, Hermilio Valdizán was the pioneer of the study of psychiatry and neurology, two subjects that psychology also deals with. The enormous merit of this father of psychology in Peru lies in the fact that until then (early 20th century) no one had studied in detail the complex determinants of the unpredictable behavior of human beings. Valdizán created the first outpatient clinic for mental and nervous illnesses and disorders at Dos de Mayo Hospital. This student of the affections of the soul introduced the teaching of courses that dealt with psychological and nervous disorders at the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in 1916.

Today, the work of psychologists It enjoys great prestige, is widely appreciated and recognized internationally because it has finally been given the importance it has for the study, prevention and diagnosis of mental disorders. The importance of psychological support for school-age students is undeniable, which is why there must be a psychology department that brings together experts capable of improving and enhancing learning abilities. These specialists must also make their best efforts to eliminate the annoyances produced by distorting factors of student behavior.
