History of Europe

When did first nations interact with European explorers?

First Nations peoples had interactions with European explorers and settlers during the Age of Exploration, which began in the 15th century. The first recorded encounters occurred in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, mainly along the coastlines of North America and the Caribbean. Europeans such as Christopher Columbus, John Cabot, and Jacques Cartier encountered various Indigenous nations and established trade relations with them. These encounters had a significant impact on both First Nations and European societies.
