History of Europe

What is deutsches Reich?

The German Reich, also known as Imperial Germany, was the German nation state that existed from the unification of Germany in 1871 until the end of World War I in 1918. It was the second German state to be proclaimed, after the Holy Roman Empire. The head of state was the German Emperor.

The German Reich was a federal state, consisting of various states and principalities with different degrees of autonomy. The most powerful states were Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony, and Württemberg. The imperial government was based in Berlin.

The German Reich was a rapidly industrializing country, and it became one of the most powerful nations in Europe. It was also a major cultural center, and it produced some of the most influential thinkers, writers, and artists of the time.

The German Reich came to an end with the end of World War I. In the Treaty of Versailles, Germany was forced to give up some of its territory and to pay reparations. The German Reich was also abolished, and it was replaced by the Weimar Republic.
