- French Victories:

- Rapidly crossed the Alps and defeated Sardinians at Montenotte & Millesimo.

- Forced Sardinia-Piedmont to seek peace and sign Treaty of Paris (1796)

- Gained control of much of Northern Italy, including Lombardy.

-Napoleon proclaimed the establishment of Cisalpine Republic in Northern Italy.

- Austrian Resistance:

- Austrians initially defeated at Arcole and Rivoli But regrouped and counterattacked.

- Retook most of Northern Italy except Mantua which French continued to siege.

- Peace of Campoformio (1797):

-After a decisive victory at Battle of Lodi Napoleon forced Austria to sign the Peace of Campo Formio

- Austria ceded Lombardy and Venetian territories to France.

- France granted Austria most of the Venetian Republic mainland territories

- France gained significant territories in Italy and established sister republics in Northern and Central Italy.
