When did the soviet take over Germany after world war 2?

The Soviet Union did not take over Germany after World War 2. Germany was divided into four zones of occupation, controlled by the United States, the Soviet Union, France, and Britain. Berlin was also divided into four sectors, with each nation controlling one sector. This occupation lasted until 1949, when the Federal Republic of Germany (West Germany) and the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) were established.
