What was the period of lessening tension between NATO and Warsaw Pact countries?

The period of lessening tension between NATO and Warsaw Pact countries was known as the Détente. It began in the late 1960s and early 1970s, and continued until the late 1970s and early 1980s. During this time, there was a significant reduction in tensions between the two blocs, and a number of arms control agreements were signed.
