The Gupta Empire was an ancient Indian empire that existed from 320 to 550 CE. It was founded by Sri Gupta, who established his rule in Magadha (modern-day Bihar). The Gupta Empire reached its peak under Chandragupta II (r. 375-415 CE), who conquered large parts of northern India and extended the empire's influence as far as the Deccan Plateau. The Gupta Empire was known for its cultural achievements, including the development of classical Indian literature, art, and architecture.
Alexander the Great did not attempt to unite the Gupta Empire with his own empire. He invaded India in 327 BCE and conquered the Indus Valley, but he did not advance further into the Indian subcontinent. Alexander's empire eventually disintegrated after his death, and the Gupta Empire was founded several centuries later.
