Why did people come to England before 1066?

* Trade: England was an important trading hub in the North Sea and the English Channel, and merchants from across Europe came to trade for wool, cloth, and other goods.

* Conquest: England was invaded and conquered by several different groups of people in the centuries leading up to 1066, including the Romans, the Anglo-Saxons, and the Vikings.

* Religion: England was also a popular destination for pilgrims and missionaries and Christians from all over Europe came to visit holy sites and spread the gospel.

* Settlement: Some people also came to England to settle permanently, often fleeing from hardship or persecution in their home countries.
