Both the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution and the Cultural Revolution in China were characterized by the use of widespread fear, violence, and intimidation to achieve political goals. In both cases, a small group of individuals used extreme methods to eliminate perceived threats to their power and enforce ideological conformity. These movements resulted in the persecution, imprisonment, and execution of a large number of people.
