History of Europe

What effect did war with Spain have on Napoleon and his army?

War had disastrous consequences for Napoleon's army. France lost thousands of soldiers, and Napoleon himself was wounded. The war also led to a loss of morale among the French troops. This, in turn, made it difficult for Napoleon to maintain control over his army. The war with Spain also led to the creation of a new coalition against France. This coalition was made up of Britain, Russia, Prussia, and Austria. The coalition was determined to defeat Napoleon and restore peace to Europe.
