The attempt to conquer Europe was stopped at the Battle of Stalingrad, which took place from July 1942 to February 1943. The battle was fought between the German Wehrmacht and the Soviet Red Army, and was the turning point of the war on the Eastern Front. The German 6th Army was surrounded and destroyed by the Soviets, and this marked the beginning of the end for Nazi Germany.
