History of Europe

The French wanted to help the Americans because they defeat Russia?

The French helped the Americans in the American Revolutionary War, but it was not because they wanted to defeat Russia. The main reason for French involvement was to weaken the British, who were their biggest rival in Europe at the time. By supporting the Americans, the French hoped to reduce British power and influence in North America and increase their own. Additionally, the French were motivated by a desire for revenge against the British for their defeat in the Seven Years' War (1756-1763).
