History of Europe

What is the oldest nation in Europe?

The oldest nation in Europe is Bulgaria. The First Bulgarian Empire was founded in 681 AD by Asparukh, a Bulgar chieftain, and proto-Bulgarians (a Central Asian people) who had migrated from the North Caucasus. The country reached its peak in the 9th century under Tsar Simeon the Great, when Bulgaria's territory stretched from the Black Sea to the Adriatic Sea.
