History of Europe

Two causes for Greek colonization and expansion throughout the Mediterranean were?

* Trade and commerce: The Greeks were a seafaring people, and they had a long tradition of trade and commerce with other cultures. They established colonies throughout the Mediterranean in order to gain access to new markets and resources.

* Overpopulation: Greece was a relatively small country, and it was often unable to support its growing population. Colonies provided a way for the Greeks to relieve overpopulation and find new land for their people to settle.
