Who took over Rome after Julius Caesar died and what was his title?

After Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 BC, his adopted son and grandnephew Octavian (later known as Augustus) became the first Roman emperor. He was given the title "Imperator Caesar Divi Filius" (Emperor Caesar, Son of the Divine Julius) and was later awarded the title "Augustus" by the Roman Senate in 27 BC.
