Why did the first skirmish of french and Indian war occur?

The first skirmish of the french and Indian war occurred because of conflicting claims over the Ohio River Valley. Both the French and British had colonies in North America, and both wanted to control the Ohio River Valley. The French built a series of forts in the valley, and the British sent troops to challenge them. The first skirmish of the French and Indian war took place on May 28, 1754, at Jumonville Glen, near present-day Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
