Who rules Ireland today?

The Republic of Ireland is a parliamentary republic. The head of state is the president, who is elected by popular vote for a seven-year term. The prime minister is the head of government and is appointed by the president on the advice of the Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, the national parliament. The current president of Ireland is Michael D. Higgins, and the current prime minister is Micheál Martin.
