Phoenician Alphabet - History of the Phoenician Alphabet

Due to the various commercial contacts they had with different peoples, the Phoenicians felt the need for a practical means to facilitate communication. Pressured by this need, the Phoenicians developed one of the most fabulous inventions in human history:the alphabet.

The Phoenician alphabet consisted of 22 signs, and was later perfected by the Greeks, who added other letters to it. The Greek alphabet gave rise to the Latin alphabet, which is the most used today.
