What cerimones did the chumash have?

Ceremonies for puberty or menstrual seclusion: When a Chumash girl reached puberty, her family would build her a special hut where she would live temporarily in isolation. During the seclusion, she would undergo ritual purification and instruction.

Marriage: When a Chumash man and woman decided to marry, their families would exchange gifts and negotiate the bride price. The wedding would then take place, with the couple exchanging vows and drinking from the same cup.

Birth: Chumash women would give birth in a secluded hut, with the assistance of a midwife. After the birth, the mother and baby would remain in the hut for several weeks to rest and recover.

Death: When a Chumash died, their body would be washed and wrapped in a shroud. The body would then be buried in a shallow grave, with grave goods such as food, tools, and clothing. The family would then hold a mourning ceremony, where they would dance, sing, and pray.
