Contribution of revolutionaries of Bihar in freedom movement

The Siyaram Dal led by Shri Siyaram Singh has made a remarkable contribution in carrying forward the revolutionary activities in Bihar. Four things were main in the program of the site - accumulation of money, accumulation of weapons, training to operate weapons and mass organization to resist the government. Dr. Gyanendra Nath, Kedar Nath Banerjee and Bal Thakurdas were prominent among the early revolutionaries of Bihar. He founded the Ramakrishna Society in 1906-1907.

In 1908, Khudiram Bose and Prafulla Chandra Chaki attempted to assassinate Muzaffarpur District Judge BH Kings Ford, but the wife and daughter of lawyer Pregale Kennedy were murdered by fraud. Prafulla Chaki committed suicide to escape the police, while Khudiram Bose was arrested and hanged on August 11, 1908.

In 1913 AD, Sachindra Nath Sanyal established Anushilan Samiti in Patna. The burden of its operation was indirectly on Bakimchandra Mitra, a student of BN College. Bankim Chandra also formed an organization called Hindu Boys Association.

The prominent leaders of Dhaka Anushilan Samaj in Bihar were – Sachindra Nath Sanyal, Rasbihari Bose, Hiranayamay Banerjee, Vasudev Bhattacharya, Bankim Chandra Mitra etc. In 1915, Bankim Chandra Mitra was arrested along with Sachindra Nath Sanyal in the Banaras Conspiracy Case and was sentenced to 3 years rigorous imprisonment.

Similarly, Revati Nag, Phani Bhushan Bhattacharya, Nalini Bagchi etc. members of Dhaka Anushilan Samiti from Bhagalpur played an important role in carrying forward revolutionary activities. In order to give impetus to revolutionary activities, Patna Yuvak Sangh was established in 1927. Maninder Narayan Rai, Phoolan Prasad Verma, Krishna Ballabh Sahai, Brijanandan Prasad etc. were prominent among the people involved in this union.

In 1929, under the leadership of Ramvriksha Benipuri and Ambika Kant Singh, Patliputra Yuvak Sangh was established in the house of Mahendra Pratap in Patna and in 1918 the Bihari Youth Association was established in Motihari. With the help of Ambika Kant Singh and Jagdish Narayan from Patna, a monthly magazine named Yuvak started publication.

The names of Kusum Kumari Devi and Shri Gauri Das are important among the women revolutionaries of Bihar. On June 28, 1931, Suraj Nath Choubey and the accused in the Delhi Conspiracy Case were arrested by the police near Bhikhna hill in Patna. On November 9, 1932, Chandra Singh killed Phanendra Nath, the informer of the Lahore and Patna Conspiracy Cases.
