History of Asia

Why do you think the Harappan people traded with Sumer instead of China?

There is no evidence to suggest that the Harappan people did not trade with China. In fact, there is evidence that they did. For example, Chinese silk has been found at Harappan sites and Harappan beads have been found in China.

However, the Harappan civilization was located in the Indus Valley region of South Asia, while China is located in East Asia. This means that the Harappan people would have had to travel a great distance to trade with China, while Sumer was much closer. Additionally, the Harappan people and the Sumerians shared a number of cultural similarities, which may have made trade between them easier.
