History of North America

Who where the first settlers to Washington DC?

Washington, D.C. was originally inhabited by the Nacotchtank people, a Native American tribe that lived in the area as early as the 15th century. European settlement began in the 17th century when English colonists from the Virginia Colony established a settlement called Piscataway in the area. In 1790, the city was officially established as the national capital of the United States and named Washington, D.C. in honor of George Washington.
