History of North America

Did the Cherokee people live near Kansas in mid 1800s?

The Cherokee are an Iroquoian-speaking Native American people originally based in the Southeastern Woodlands of the present-day United States. The Cherokee lands were centered in what is now Georgia and extended into parts of Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia. After their land was taken and they were forced to relocate they were relocated to present day Oklahoma.

The Cherokee Nation never settled in Kansas in large numbers.
