History of North America

What were some conflicts between Native Americans and Settlers?

King Philip's War (1675-1676):

This conflict was fought primarily between the Wampanoag Confederacy, led by Metacom (also known as King Philip), and English colonists in New England. The war began over disputes about land and religion and resulted in significant loss of life and destruction on both sides.

French and Indian War (1754-1763):

This global conflict extended to North America, where it was known as the French and Indian War. Native American nations allied with both the French and the British, with battles taking place across the continent. The war resulted in the British defeating the French, gaining control of Canada, and increasing tensions with Native American tribes.

Pontiac's Rebellion (1763-1766):

After the British victory in the French and Indian War, Native American tribes led by Ottawa chief Pontiac launched a series of attacks against British forts and settlements in the Ohio River Valley. The conflict aimed to resist British expansion and protect Native American land rights.

Battle of Little Bighorn (1876):

Also known as Custer's Last Stand, this battle took place between the United States Army, led by Lieutenant Colonel George Armstrong Custer, and a coalition of Lakota, Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes in present-day Montana. The battle resulted in a significant defeat for the U.S. Army and marked a turning point in the conflicts between Native Americans and settlers in the West.
