History of Europe

Why did the soviet union and east Germany have an advantage over west Berlin?

The Soviet Union and East Germany did not have an advantage over West Berlin. In fact, West Berlin was a prosperous and thriving city, while East Berlin and the rest of East Germany were relatively poor and underdeveloped.

Here are some of the reasons why West Berlin had an advantage over East Berlin:

* West Berlin was a free and democratic society, while East Berlin and the rest of East Germany were communist dictatorships. This meant that West Berliners had more freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, and freedom of movement than East Germans.

* West Berlin was a major center of commerce and industry, while East Berlin and the rest of East Germany were largely agricultural. This meant that West Berliners had more job opportunities and higher incomes than East Germans.

* West Berlin was supported by the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, while East Berlin and the rest of East Germany were supported by the Soviet Union. This meant that West Berlin received financial and military aid from the West, while East Berlin and the rest of East Germany received aid from the Soviet Union.

As a result of these factors, West Berlin was a much more prosperous and developed city than East Berlin and the rest of East Germany.
