History of Europe

Who is the first European explorer to sail around world?

Ferdinand Magellan (c. 1480[3][4] – April 27, 1521) was a Portuguese explorer who is credited with leading the first global expedition.[5] Although Magellan died before the completion of the expedition, his ships became the first to successfully navigate the Straits of Magellan and cross the Pacific Ocean.[6] The fleet's Portuguese captain, Juan Sebastián Elcano, later returned the Victoria to Sanlúcar de Barrameda in September 1522, three years after leaving Spain.[7] The expedition resulted in the first circumnavigation of the globe that confirmed that earth was sphere.[8]
