What were the objectives in supporting spread of communism Eastern Europe?

1. To create a buffer zone around the Soviet Union. After the Second World War, the Soviet Union was one of the two most powerful countries in the world. It was feared that the Soviet Union might invade Western Europe, so the United States and its allies created a buffer zone of communist countries between the Soviet Union and Western Europe. This buffer zone was known as the Eastern Bloc.

2. To spread the communist ideology. The Soviet Union and its allies believed that communism was the superior form of government. They wanted to spread communism throughout the world, so they supported communist movements in Eastern Europe.

3. To weaken the Western powers. The United States and its allies were the main rivals of the Soviet Union. By supporting communist movements in Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union could weaken the Western powers and increase its own power.

4. To gain access to resources. Eastern Europe is rich in natural resources, such as oil, gas, and coal. The Soviet Union wanted to gain access to these resources so it could strengthen its economy.

5. To promote world revolution. The Soviet Union and its allies believed that communism would eventually triumph throughout the world. They supported communist movements in Eastern Europe in the hope that these movements would eventually lead to world revolution.
