The decisions made in the Versailles treaty:

- Germany was to return Alsace-Lorraine to France, as well as Eupen-Malmédy to Belgium and North Schleswig to Denmark.

- Germany was to cede West Prussia, Posen, and Upper Silesia to Poland.

- Germany was to lose all of its overseas colonies.

- Germany's military was to be severely restricted, with the army limited to 100,000 men, the navy to 15,000 men, and the air force abolished.

- Germany was to pay reparations to the Allied Powers, totaling 132 billion gold marks (equivalent to $33 billion at the time).

- Germany was to accept responsibility for starting World War I, which was known as the "war guilt clause."
