History of Europe

What three requirements were outlined in the treaty of Versailles?

1. Germany was to accept full responsibility for the war. This meant that Germany had to admit that it had been the aggressor in World War I and that it was therefore responsible for the damage and suffering that the war had caused.

2. Germany was to pay reparations to the Allies. The Allies wanted Germany to pay for the damage that it had caused during the war. The total amount of reparations was set at 132 billion gold marks, which was equivalent to about $33 billion at the time.

3. Germany was to lose territory. Germany was forced to give up territory to the Allies. This included the Alsace-Lorraine region, which was given to France, and Eupen-Malmédy, which was given to Belgium. Germany also lost its overseas colonies.
