Did Athens fight in the Trojan war?

There is no historical evidence that Athens played a significant role in the Trojan War, which is primarily known from the Greek epic poems, the Iliad and the Odyssey, attributed to Homer.

While the epic poems mention numerous Greek cities and their leaders participating in the war against Troy, Athens is noticeably absent from the accounts. The prominent Greek cities involved in the Trojan War include Mycenae, Argos, Sparta, Pylos, and others, but Athens does not appear among them.

As a result, historians generally believe that Athens did not actively participate in the Trojan War.
