When did people from Europe come to live in the 13 colonies?

People from Europe began arriving in the 13 colonies in the early 17th century. The first permanent English settlement in North America was Jamestown, Virginia, founded in 1607. Other English settlements followed, including Plymouth Colony (1620) and the Massachusetts Bay Colony (1630). In addition to the English, other European groups who settled in the colonies included the Dutch, French, Swedes, and Germans.
