The hoplites, the Roman legions, the Tercios, the janissaries... have been considered the best warriors/soldiers throughout history. Later, science fiction has tried to create the invincible army:sophisticated weapons, robot soldiers, genetic modifications... and the humancé (hybrid between human and chimpanzee). The fact is that the army of humancé was not the fruit of science fiction but of the mind of a genocide:Stalin . Stalin's idea, I suppose taken from the book «The Island of Doctor Moreau » from H.G. Wells, was to create an army of hybrids between humans and chimpanzees with the best of each:human intelligence combined with the resistance and physical capacity of apes.
Ilya Ivanov
A few years earlier, the Russian biologist Ilya Ivanovich Ivanov , specialized in the field of artificial insemination and a pioneer in obtaining hybrid animals, had obtained the Zubrón (hybrid between cow and bison), the Zedonk (hybrid between zebra and donkey)... Ilya was his man of he . In 1925 Ilya had obtained permission from the Pasteur Institute in Paris to experiment with chimpanzees in Kindia (French Guinea). The financing of that project was provided by Moscow. This time the experiment consisted of inseminating female chimpanzees with human sperm, but after several attempts there was no result. So, Ilya decided to turn the tables… he would inseminate women with chimpanzee sperm . That was already too much and the French authorities revoked his permit. He returned to Russia, that he still believed in his project, and continued his work in Sukhumi (Abkhazia) where the Russian authorities had created an experimental field with primates.
To continue his experiments in Sukhumi he had a chimpanzee and five women… volunteers . Before being able to inseminate the women, the chimpanzee died, Ilya fell into disgrace and was sentenced to exile.
In the 70s, Oliver appeared , a near-human chimpanzee, who was thought to be a hybrid. It wasn't like that, but it was kind of special.
