Statue of Liberty

The Statue of Liberty (in English, The Statue of Liberty ) is a large monument located in the United States. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.

One of the most famous in the world, the statue is an icon that symbolizes freedom, democracy and the hope of the American people.

The monument represents the Roman goddess of freedom:“Libertas ”. She holds a torch in her right hand (which is raised), and in her left hand she holds the United States Declaration of Independence with the date of the country's Independence written in Roman numerals:July 4, 1776.

The Statue of Liberty measures 92.99 meters with the pedestal. The statue alone is 46.5 meters tall. Its size is equivalent to a 22-story building.

History

In neoclassical style, the Statue of Liberty was built in copper, steel and cement.

The monument was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi (1834-1904) and engineer Gustave Eiffel (1832-1923), who also worked on the design of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

It was offered to the United States by the French in 1886 to commemorate the centenary of the country's Independence.

Its construction took place in Paris and the 350 parts of the monument were shipped to the United States. It was completed in July 1884 in France and opened on October 28, 1886 in New York.
