Were the Chinese emperors worshiped as gods?

While the Chinese emperors were considered to have the Mandate of Heaven and were held in high regard, they were not worshipped as gods. They were considered to be the 'Son of Heaven' and the 'August One' and were given great respect, including being addressed by subjects with honorific titles. However, they were not worshipped in the same way that deities are. The main religions practiced in China are Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism.
